AN
important reference work on ordinary,
extraordinary and pontifical functions by a papal master of
ceremonies [see
TABLE OF CONTENTS], this
book is a revised edition of an rubrical
opus
that was a liturgical mainstay for
nearly a century.
The
name of Italian Vincentian, Msgr.
Giuseppe Baldeschi
(1791-1849), is nigh inseparable from the
rubrical sphere. First published
in 1830, Baldeschi's four-volume set of Esposizione delle Sacre
Cerimonie (A Summary of the
Sacred Ceremonies) immediately became
a primary rubrical authority for the
Roman Rite.
Subsequently,
Esposizione delle Sacre
Cerimonie was translated from the
original Italian and published in
several languages, and was repeatedly
revised to keep this important work
current. Its
English edition, translated by Fr. J.D.
Hilarius Dale (Ceremonial According to the Roman Rite),
was the catalyst for Fr. Adrian
Fortescue's indispensable rubrical
English classic, The Ceremonies of
the Roman Rite Described.
This
archival reprint* has been comb bound
with black plastic coil for easy
studying.
*NB:
there is some scattered underlining from
the original book present in this copy.
