Esposizione delle Sacre Cerimonie
Per le Funzioni
Ordinarie, Straordinaire e Pontificali
Msgr. Giuseppe
Baldeschi, CM
6th edition; 1931
An important reference work on ordinary, extraordinary and pontifical functions by a papal master of ceremonies, this book is a revised edition of an rubrical opus that was a liturgical mainstay for
over a century.
The name of
Giuseppe Baldeschi (1791-1849), is inseparable from the rubrical sphere.
An Italian Vincentian and papal master of
ceremonies, Msgr. Baldeschi published his
first edition of Esposizione delle Sacre Cerimonie
(A Summary of the Sacred Ceremonies)
in 1823. It immediately became a primary rubrical
source for the Roman Rite.

|
Baldeschi's
popular ceremonial manual was quickly translated from Italian and published in several
languages. Over the decades it was also repeatedly revised to keep
it rubrically current.

Though
this is the Italian version, it is noteworthy to
mention that the English
edition was translated by J.D. Hilarius Dale and
published as Ceremonial According to the Roman
Rite. It was this former work that served as the catalyst for
Fortescue's indispensable classic, The Ceremonies of the Roman Rite
Described.
